Welcome to the lush and vibrant north region of Zambia, home to the renowned Kateshi coffee estate. Established in 1972 near Kateshi village, Kateshi was one of the first coffee estates in Zambia and quickly became a cornerstone of coffee production in the region. Its wet processing facilities were at the center of coffee production in northern Zambia, and the estate has consistently excelled in quality, with its natural and honey coffees taking first and second place in Zambia's annual Taste of Harvest competition.
But Kateshi is much more than just a coffee producer - it is a community-focused enterprise dedicated to improving the lives of the local people. The estate works with a top-notch exporter to provide daily access to safe drinking water for over 20,000 locals and supports three schools that provide primary and secondary education for over 1,500 students. The Kateshi health clinic, the only such facility within a 30km radius, provides free basic healthcare to over 4,000 community members and sees an average of 95 visitors per day.
Kateshi is also a trailblazer in gender equality, being the first and only coffee estate in Zambia to employ women in traditionally male-dominated roles such as driving tractors, bull-dozers, and road graders. And if sports are your thing, be sure to cheer on the Kateshi Coffee Bullets, the estate's sponsored football team competing in the Zambian 1st Division.
