Nestled in these stunning landscapes, the Cafex washing station was founded by a visionary Belgian-Burundian couple with a passion for combining coffee production with sustainable development and improving the lives of the local community.

Our coffee is expertly milled and exported by Ikawa Nziza, a partnership between Cafex and Schluter (now Olam Specialty Europe) established in 2013 with the goal of promoting specialty coffee production in Burundi. Our lot is from the first purpose-built specialty drymill in Burundi, located at high altitude amidst these breathtaking mountains and designed for the production of exceptional microlot coffees.
